Prevent Child Abuse America Planted More Than 1,000 Pinwheels at Washington Monument to Celebrate Great Childhoods!

Yesterday Prevent Child Abuse America and its Virginia and Maryland chapters celebrated the great childhoods that all children deserve with a "National Pinwheel Garden" by planting more than 1,000 pinwheels near the Washington Monument on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. 

The public and members of event partners General Federation of Women's Clubs, Sigma Delta Tau, Kappa Delta and Chartwells K12 were invited to celebrate the people who helped them enjoy great childhoods by having pinwheels planted in their honor in the National Pinwheel Garden. 

"The pinwheel allows us to engage people in a new way," said Prevent Child Abuse America President & CEO James M. Hmurovich. "It provides us with an engaging device to move beyond merely making people aware of child abuse prevention, but motivating them to take action on its behalf. From acts big and small, from providing busy parents with a break to signing onto letters to Congress, each of us can, and must, play a role in ensuring great childhoods for our nation's children. This event in the nation's capital is one more way to convey that message to the country."

On Tuesday, October 13th, Prevent Child Abuse America and its Virginia and Maryland chapters will celebrate the great childhoods that all children deserve with a “National Pinwheel Garden” at 11:00am ET near the Washington Monument on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. The pinwheel, derived from Prevent Child Abuse America’s Pinwheels for Prevention^® campaign, is the symbol for child abuse prevention, introduced by the organization nationally in 2008. The public and members of event partners General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Sigma Delta Tau, Kappa Delta and Chartwells K12 are being invited to celebrate the people who helped them enjoy great childhoods by having pinwheels planted in their honor in the National Pinwheel Garden. Individuals can purchase and dedicate pinwheels here through Monday, October 12th. On Tuesday, October 13th, the pinwheels will be planted on the National Mall. Prevent Child Abuse America and Sigma Delta Tau Announce a Combined Effort to Decrease and Prevent Bullying

Sigma Delta Tau to underwrite a new bullying prevention program that builds on the work of various bullying models

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO (April 11, 2012) – Sigma Delta Tau and Prevent Child Abuse America will be partnering to implement a new bullying prevention initiative. The new program will provide information and support to the Prevent Child Abuse America’s state chapter network throughout the country. Sigma Delta Tau will serve as the primary underwriter and named supporter of the program and is designating that funds raised in 2012 by its collegiate chapters will be used in part to begin work on the development of the program.

“We are excited to begin working on a new component of our long-standing partnership with Prevent Child Abuse America,” said Amy Krouse, National President, Sigma Delta Tau. “Bullying is an issue that affects many of us personally and fits well with Sigma Delta Tau’s mission. Our alumnae, National Council, and thousands of undergraduate women will be able to engage in this new program. We look forward to growing our partnership with Prevent Child Abuse America through this important issue.”

The initiative will seek to develop a model which builds on, and integrates, the work currently being done on bullying prevention, with a focus on innovation, best practice, and replicability.
