The Child Welfare League of America has a new Petition posted at causes - here - calling for President Obama to focus on the healthy development of all children and their families during discussions to balance the budget and reduce the deficit.

We want to share their message with you, see below, invite you to take a look at the petition - here - and let us know what you think about this effort and the larger budget discussions now happening.  

"President Obama's deficit reduction plan will set the terms for Congressional discussions. Tell him to hold children and their families harmless. What good is a sound fiscal future if our children are not prepared to take it over? Children did not create the deficit, and so they should not be impacted by plans to balance the budget. Sign this petition asking President Obama to take children and their families off the table. If we've given our children a strong and safe foundation, then they will come together to work out their differences. They won't all agree on everything, but they will trust the process of our forefathers and press on to protect their own future: their children. Ask President Obama to protect our children during deficit reduction."

We (Evan and Christa) want to take some time and thank you for all of your hard work within the Society Against Child Abuse Cause, especially during this month. We want to live in a world where life, trust, prosperity, health as well as other concepts are taken more seriously. We are off to a great start with our One Percent to Prevent Challenge. We want to show what can happen when one percent of us act to make a difference for children and families throughout our country. With just a $10 donation, you can truly make a difference in preventing child abuse.

Congress just passed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which will expand high-quality, voluntary, home visitation services, such as our program to prevent child abuse, Healthy Families America. Building off this momentum, it’s important that these programs are well-funded and supported by the community. That’s where you come in. Now announcing the launch of the One Percent to Prevent Challenge! The Challenge is a fundraising campaign to raise $35,199.65 this April, the equivalent of one percent of the 3,519,965 people (as of April 1, 2010) who are members of the Causes that benefit Prevent Child Abuse America.

As someone who cares about preventing child abuse, we’re asking that you become part of the one percent that takes action. Prevent Child Abuse America is building a national movement to ensure that all of our children are raised in healthy communities nationwide. These donations will fund greater public awareness about child abuse, more successes in the public policy arena and widespread support of innovative prevention solutions that enhance the lives of children and their families, such as our leading direct service program, Healthy Families America. More America's Giving Challenge. Please join us for a one-day push starting this Thursday, October 29th.

As you know, Prevent Child Abuse America is competing in the America’s Giving Challenge through the Causes application on Facebook. Again, they are awarding daily and overall cash prizes for the Causes that receive the greatest number of donations - not raise the most money - during this 30-day challenge.

So if anyone is considering making a $50 donation, for example, we ask that they be made as $10 gifts over five days so we can get credit for five gifts instead of one.

To try to win a $1,000 prize for generating the most donations in a 24-hour period, we would like to ask everyone to consider making a gift between 3:00pm ET on Thursday, October 29th, and 3:00pm ET on Friday, October 30th. Your gift could be as little as $10; what’s important is generating the most donations over that 24-hour period to win the prize.

To further increase our chances of winning the day, we hope you will send this to others as well!

America's Giving Challenge. Are you feeling it?

Yesterday Causes launched its latest Giving Challenge, a national online competition in which participating causes compete for daily and overall awards of up to $50,000, which will be given to the causes with the highest number of individual donors (not dollars). The Challenge runs through 3:00pm ET on Saturday, November 7.

You’ve already made the Society Against Child Abuse one of the largest Causes in the world with more than 3.1 million members! Now let’s make it the most “impactful” by getting involved. Here’s how:

1) Make a gift – minimum gift allowed is $10

2) Tell your friends!

3) Give again – Help us compete for the daily awards by giving on multiple days (one gift per day allowed)

Our goal is to raise $50,000 for Prevent Child Abuse America. If 5,000 members give $10 each over the course of the Challenge, we’ll reach our goal, and hopefully put us in the running for the big cash prizes.

Your commitment will support Prevent Child Abuse America’s efforts to change the way our nation thinks about prevention, focusing on community activities and public policies that prioritize prevention right from the start so child abuse and neglect never occur.
