A final 2013 Child Abuse Prevention Month Wrap-Up and Celebration.

We wanted to share one final post highlighting the array of interesting healthy child development and prevention activities that happened across the country during April and Child Abuse Prevention Month (CAPM).

At the Cape May, New Jersey Healthy Families they decorated a large bulletin board in the facility’s meeting room, combining CAPM with Redeemer Week (a celebration throughout the Holy Redeemer Health System) with a bridge connecting "Happy, Healthy, and Safe Children," their CAPM theme, with "Bridges," from their Redeemer Week theme - "Redeemer HealthCare, HomeCare, LifeCare: Bridges of Hope and Healing along Life’s Journey.” The children in the Healthy Families program, colored the pinwheels, representing “a carefree childhood.” Handprints were used to create the Sun, Water, Clouds, and Land.

In Tampa, Florida,  the six Children’s Board Family Resource Centers celebrated with story time, activities and visits from Sister Berenstain Bear at each Center. They also participated in the Pinwheels for Prevention event at the Glazer Children’s Museum.
GFWC Anchorage Woman's Club, GFWC Alaska, GFWC Nome Woman's Club, GFWC Western States Region, GFWC Haines Woman's Club, GFWC Greater Fairbanks Woman's Club members participated in the "Choose Respect" marches on March 28, 2013. Child Abuse Awareness falls under the umbrella of Domestic Violence. General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) has had as its Signature Project, Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention for many years. GFWC Anchorage Woman's Club has also supported this effort for many years. This year they added Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention to their programs and have ordered pinwheels for a child abuse and neglect prevention event they will be holding in the fall.

Pinwheel Gardens were also planted throughout Mendocino County, California.
