Estimated Annual Cost of Child Abuse and Neglect report in the news.

An Op-Ed co-signed by James M. Hmurovich, President & CEO, Prevent Child Abuse America and Rosie Allen Ryan, President & CEO, Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina discussing Prevent Child Abuse America's recently released Estimated Annual Cost of Child Abuse and Neglect report - more here - and the estimated costs in North Carolina was published in the SaliburyPost.com - here. We encourage you to take a look and we have posted a brief excerpt below.

"North Carolina taxpayers’ share of the total cost in 2012 has been estimated at just over $2 billion.

"These costs are unacceptable. And the adverse social, emotional, health, and education outcomes are equally intolerable, especially since we know they are preventable. As adults it is our obligation to do everything we can to ensure all children have the safe, stable, healthy, nurturing environments they need to thrive. Doesn’t it make sense to invest in strategies that prevent child abuse and neglect?

"We are doing just that in communities across North Carolina. Families are benefiting from home visiting and parenting programs proven through rigorous research to prevent abuse and neglect before it occurs. However, we are only scratching the surface. All parents need support at one time or another. Imagine if every parent had access to one of these proven programs when they needed it. How would that impact our children today and our state tomorrow?"
