Prevent Child Abuse America and Healthy Families America are proud to announce Betsy McAlister Groves, MSW, LICSW, founder of the nationally recognized Child Witness to Violence Project at Boston Medical Center, as a plenary speaker at Prevent Child Abuse America's National Conference - Awaken to Change - The National Conference for America's Children, October 12-15, 2012, in Jacksonville, Florida.
Betsy McAlister Groves dramatically disproves the myth that very young children are not affected by violence. Drawing on her experiences with the Child Witness to Violence Project, Groves contends that many children in the US witness violence at home, in school and on television, and that adults can and should help these children cope with their reactions. Groves is also the author of the book, Children Who See Too Much: Lessons from the Child Witness to Violence Project (2002), and has published extensively on topics related to childhood trauma and intervention.
The National Conference will also include a series of Educational Tracks comprised of sessions focused on: Healthy Child and Family Development; Moving the Movement - The National Movement for America's Children; Advancing Public Policy, Messages, Marketing and Corporate Responsibility; What's Working and What We are Learning; and Child Sexual Abuse Prevention.
